Our persuasive letter to Mr. Claus

Santa Claus
North Pole
6th December 2016

Dear Mr Claus,

My name is Miss Daly and I live in Aveley. I hope you are well. I imagine this is a very busy time for you! You must be very skilled at driving, to find all the world’s children from your sleigh.

We ALL know that you are an incredible driver as you are able to control the adorable reindeers that rapidly run through the sky. EVERBODY knows that you are the most kind, polite, giving and loving person I know. Has anybody ever told you that you have the softest and most luxurious beard in the world? The REAL truth is that you are the most caring man in the galaxy.

Unfortunately, I have been informed that I am on the naughty list. I think this is a dreadful mistake! Here are the reasons why this is an awful mistake: I have helped my beautiful mother with her chores every single day. Every afternoon, I have taken the disgusting family bin outside, which is a job nobody would want to do! Every evening, I have washed up the precious dishes until they are perfectly clean and THEN I have walked my dog until he panted. I am sure you will agree that I do NOT deserve to be on the naughty list and I hope that you can reconsider this decision.

If I am put onto the good list, I can promise that you will receive delicious cookies and the best mince pies in Thurrock. Also, I will provide magical, vibrant orange carrots to feed your furry friends. These scrumptious snacks should give you all the energy to finish your job in 8 hours!

Please, please, please put me on the Good list!

Yours sincerely,
Miss Daly

Completely exhausted, the young boy fell like rain into the beautiful, spiralling waterfall. His high pitched scream travelled for miles and beyond.

Last week, year 5 worked incredibly hard to learn and perform the poem ‘The Witches Spell’ from Macbeth.

This week in English we have created our own potion poems inspired by ‘The Witches’ Spell’ from Macbeth.

The Witches Cauldron

Round about the witches nose go,

In the fizzing witch heart throw,

Put that cold arm under the coil,

Days and nights of dirty of soil,

Season venom boil and crush,

Get a rat’s tail and then mush.

Bubble bubble foiling trouble,

Fireworks turn and witch snot bubble.

Tail of a slithering egg shell snake,

Wizards beard to boil and bake,

Leg of a lizard and bum of a frog,

Ear of a newt and claw of a dog.

Bubble bubble foiling trouble,

Fireworks turn and witch snot bubble.

The Witches’ wicked spell

Mix about the smelly cauldron go,

In the poisonous potion dragons throw,

Lets get ready and mix,

Don’t forget the weet-a-bix,

Triple, triple boil and bake,

Steam and smoke, like a baking cake,

Poisoned toe from a teal snake,

In the pot steam and bake,

Wool of a sheep and paw of a dog,

Wing of a bird and tongue of a frog,

Wicked wash and naughty bees sting,

A persons leg and a butterflies wing,

Triple, triple boil and bake,

Steam and smoke, like a baking cake,

The Witches’ spell

Round about the charcoal cauldron bake,

Like a deadly snake,

Add ugly toads and an old stone,

With a huge giant’s bone,

A candy turtle’s shell full of powerful trouble,

Like a zombie with a pear bubble.

Mix it, mix it toil and trouble,

In the midnight cauldron bubble,

Fill it up with a scaly snake,

In the ink woods it will bake,

Eye of a cat and toe of a frog,

Wool of a cotton sheep and guts from a dog,

Cow’s horn and a bee sting,

Lizard’s nose and a bird’s wing,

A candy turtle’s shell full of powerful trouble,

Like a zombie with a pear bubble.

Mix it, mix it toil and trouble,

In the midnight cauldron bubble,

The Witches curse

Mix the curse in the cauldron go,

In the poisonous football throw,

Find a unicorn’s horn under a stone,

Get a SIM card from a phone,

Brew the curse until it pops,

Peel the horn until it hops.

Triple, triple, double bubble,

Quicker, quicker lots of trouble.

First add a fillet of a slithering simile snake,

In the hot pink cauldron smash and bake,

Eye of a cow and bum of an emerald green frog,

Leopard’s leg and claw of a dog.

Triple, triple, double bubble,

Quicker, quicker lots of trouble.

Stir the Cauldron

Stirring in the cauldron go,

In the bubbles entrails throw,

Flaming under that cold stone,

Make sure you find a dinosaur’s bone,

Whisking venom, steaming got,

Heating the potion in this charmed pot.

Triple, triple mix the trouble,

Wood a flame and cauldron bubble.

Dragon’s eyes and mouldy pies bake,

Enchanted rock that won’t bake.

Triple, triple mix the trouble,

Wood a flame and cauldron bubble.

Round about the Cauldron

Round about the cauldron go,

With two eyes of a hippo,

And sea weed from the sea,

Don’t forget hair from you and me,

Add venom from a sleeping snake,

In a cauldron it will bake.

Fire, fire toil and trouble,

Sparks and fireworks in the bubble,

Fillet of a scaly snake,

In the cauldron bats will bake,

Beard of a wolf and butterfly sting,

Crocodile tooth and a golden eagle’s wing,

Finger of a prince with a ring makes trouble

As they all make a terrifying bubble.

Fire, fire toil and trouble,

Sparks and fireworks in the bubble,
